Job Description:
Job Purpose:Builds families by counseling and representing
clients in matters of adoptions; protecting the rights of the
adopting parents and adopted child.Duties:

* Obtains and retains adoption clients by following-up on
referrals; understanding case information; presenting legal
options; maintaining rapport.
* Provides adoption legal advice by conducting legal research;
keeping clients abreast of case developments; providing
explanations of legal concepts and actions.
* Develops adoption issues and cases by supervising paralegals;
reviewing documents; analyzing investigative findings; consulting
with experts; completing discovery process.
* Completes adoptions by representing clients in international and
domestic adoptions, agency adoptions, independent or
private-placement adoptions, stepparent adoptions, blood-relative
adoptions, surrogacy-related adoptions, open adoptions, and closed
adoptions.
* Supports children's rights by ensuring they receive the rights
afforded to all U.S.
citizens, but also those rights that are due to their status as
children, such as, the right to food, clothing, shelter, medical
care, and education.
* Maintains the "best interests of the child" standard by resolving
custody and visitation issues when some type of reproductive
technology, such as, surrogate motherhood or sperm and egg donation
was used in the creation of the child.
* Completes adoption, custody, and visitation case preparation by
preparing legal briefs; developing strategies, arguments, and
testimony.
* Maintains adoption issues and case progress by following and
enforcing productivity and quality standards; resolving operational
problems; identifying work process improvements.
* Resolves adoption disputes by settling, mediating, or bringing
cases to trial; filing lawsuits; planning, investigating,
organizing, and presenting arguments and counter-arguments;
engaging expert witnesses; preparing and presenting evidence;
preparing and interrogating witnesses.
* Maintains adoption cost standards by monitoring expenses;
recommending cost-saving opportunities.
* Improves adoption quality results by studying, evaluating, and
re-designing processes; implementing changes.
* Updates adoption law job knowledge by tracking case law and the
development of legal theories; participating in educational
opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining
personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
* Accomplishes law firm goals by accepting ownership for
accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities
to add value to job
